May 1, 2025: Carver High School Parking Lot Shooting, Winston-Salem
On May 1, 2025, at 7:59 p.m., a disturbance in the Carver High School parking lot in Winston-Salem, NC, escalated into a shooting, with multiple gunshots fired. A juvenile sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and was treated at a local hospital. John Bekham Herrera Panzo, an 18-year-old Hispanic male, was arrested and charged in connection with the incident. August 2024: Gang-Related Assault and Armed Robbery, Savannah
In August 2024, three Black males, Treyvon Howard, Rashine Edwards, and Jakarie Cowell, alleged members of the Rock Out Gang (ROG), a hybrid street gang aligned with the Rollin’ 60s Crips, were indicted in Savannah, GA, for two violent incidents. On August 8, they allegedly assaulted an 18-year-old at Frazier Homes. Two days later, on August 10, they committed an armed robbery and carjacking of a 44-year-old at Oglethorpe Mall. The Chatham County grand jury charged them with aggravated assault, armed robbery, carjacking, and violations of the Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act. Source: WJCL News.

April 17, 2025: Stafford Place Apartments Shooting, Winston-Salem
On April 17, 2025, at approximately 12:20 a.m., Winston-Salem police responded to a shooting at Stafford Place Apartments on the 3400 block of Town Square Drive, Winston-Salem, NC. They found 21-year-old Milton Saguilan with multiple gunshot wounds; he died at the scene. Kelvin Jackson, a 29-year-old Black male, was arrested that afternoon in Davidson County, found in a stolen vehicle belonging to the victim. Jackson faces charges of first-degree murder and larceny of a motor vehicle. He was denied bond and is due in court on April 21. Source: WXII 12 News.

February 19, 2025: Queen Anne Street Shooting, Burlington
On February 19, 2025, at around 6:30 a.m., Burlington police responded to a shooting in the 500 block of Queen Anne Street, Burlington, NC. They found 39-year-old Stanley Gillom with gunshot wounds. Gillom was taken to a hospital but died from his injuries on March 14. Terrance Evans Jr., a Black male, was arrested on April 16 and charged with first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was held without bond. John Moore IV, a Black male, was arrested on April 3 and charged with accessory after the fact to first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, with a $150,000 bond. April 28, 2025: Piney Grove Road Shooting, Kernersville
On April 28, 2025, at around 7:36 a.m., Kernersville police responded to reports of shots fired in the 730 block of Piney Grove Road, Kernersville, NC. They found Tamire Christopher Davis, 26, with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Davis was taken to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Alijah Duncan-McKay, a 24-year-old Black male, was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. January 3, 2018: Myrtle Drive Apartment Shooting, Thomasville
On January 3, 2018, at approximately 7:40 p.m., Davidson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting at an apartment on the 300 block of Myrtle Drive, Thomasville, NC. An eight-month pregnant woman, Haley Causey, was shot in the chest during a planned armed robbery targeting marijuana. Joshua Kaleb Norman, an 18-year-old Black male, was identified as the shooter and arrested the next day. He was found guilty on April 24, 2025, of attempted murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and related charges, receiving a 26-year sentence. April 15, 2025: North Liberty Street Drive-By Shooting, Winston-Salem
On April 15, 2025, at approximately 6:30 p.m., Winston-Salem police responded to a drive-by shooting in the 1100 block of North Liberty Street, Winston-Salem, NC. A 44-year-old woman was found with a gunshot wound to her lower leg and was treated at a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Timothie Makie Joyner, a 19-year-old Black male, and Cimal Rashona Braxton, a 17-year-old Black female, were arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. April 21, 2022: Domestic Shooting at North Point Boulevard, Winston-Salem
On April 21, 2022, at approximately 8:30 p.m., Winston-Salem police responded to a domestic disturbance with shots fired at a residence in Winston-Salem, NC. A woman reported that her boyfriend, Tyree Ray Long, a 31-year-old Black male, shot at her and her daughter as they attempted to flee in their vehicle after an argument. Long fired multiple rounds, striking the car four times, but no one was injured. He fled but was arrested on April 26 at a hotel on North Point Boulevard by the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, Winston-Salem Police, and Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office. Long was convicted of attempted murder and related charges, receiving a 37-year sentence on April 30, 2025. Source: WXII 12 News.

April 11, 2025: Rubywood Street Shooting, Greensboro
On April 11, 2025, around 10:30 p.m., Greensboro police responded to a shooting in the 1900 block of Rubywood Street, near the Greensboro Urban Loop and McKnight Mill Road, NC. They found 25-year-old Jayda Cromartie with a fatal gunshot wound; he died at the scene. Ryan Isley, a 28-year-old Black male, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. His father, Kenny Isley, a 55-year-old Black male, was charged with accessory after the fact to murder and possession of a firearm by a felon. Both were detained in Guilford County Jail after police located their vehicle. This marked Greensboro’s 12th homicide of 2025. Source: WXII 12 News.

April 11, 2025: Winston-Salem State University Campus Shooting
On April 11, 2025, shortly after 6:30 p.m., Winston-Salem police and campus police responded to a shooting inside a study room at Rams Commons 3, a residential facility at Winston-Salem State University, NC. A 22-year-old man, a recent WSSU graduate not currently enrolled, was shot nine times—six in the abdomen, three in the shoulders—and was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. Ja’lon Stallings, a 19-year-old Black male and WSSU student, turned himself in on April 14 and was charged with attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, robbery with a dangerous weapon, discharging a firearm on educational property, and related misdemeanors. September 20, 2016: Keith Lamont Scott Shooting, Charlotte
On September 20, 2016, at around 3:45 p.m., Charlotte-Mecklenburg police responded to an unrelated call at The Village at College Downs apartment complex in Charlotte, NC. Officers observed Keith Lamont Scott, a 43-year-old Black male, in a vehicle with a handgun and marijuana. When approached, Scott exited his vehicle armed, ignored repeated commands to drop the weapon, and was perceived as a threat. Officer Brentley Vinson, a Black male, fatally shot Scott. The Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Office found no evidence of an unlawful killing, and no charges were filed against Vinson on November 30, 2016. Source: NBC News.

July 20, 2016: Eden Deadly Shooting
On July 20, 2016, Eden police investigated a fatal shooting after a male victim arrived at Morehead Hospital in Eden, NC, with gunshot wounds and later died. The shooting’s exact location and circumstances remain undisclosed due to the ongoing investigation. AlJamar Lindsey, a Black male, was identified as the suspect and charged with murder. As of 2018, Lindsey remained at large. Note: Lindsey was killed in a separate shooting on October 1, 2023, at The Rabbit Hole bar in Eden, where he was a victim, not a suspect. October 1, 2023: The Rabbit Hole Bar Shooting, Eden
On October 1, 2023, at 1:09 a.m., Eden police responded to a shooting at The Rabbit Hole bar, 111 N. Hundley Street, Eden, NC. AlJamar Lindsey, a 39-year-old Black male, was found with multiple gunshot wounds in the parking lot and died at the scene. The shooting stemmed from a physical altercation between two women, unrelated to Lindsey, who was shot at close range. Aaron Noel Johnson Marriott, a 22-year-old Black male, was arrested on October 12 and charged with first-degree murder, held without bond. Leslie Nicole Smith, a white female, and Tina Louise Lawson, a 49-year-old white female and bar owner, were charged with felony accessory to murder after the fact. Lawson also faced charges for aiding a felon’s firearm possession, marijuana possession, and maintaining a dwelling for illegal activities, per North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement. Source: MyFOX8.

April 1, 2020: Glovenia Street Shooting, Eden
On April 1, 2020, at around 7:30 p.m., Eden police responded to a shooting near the intersection of Glovenia and Spruce Streets, Eden, NC. Rodney Leon Kellam, 37, was found with gunshot wounds and died at the scene. Corey Keen, a 25-year-old Black male, was identified as the suspect and charged with second-degree murder. May 8, 2022: Glenbrook Drive Drive-By Shooting, Winston-Salem
On May 8, 2022, Winston-Salem police responded to a shooting on Glenbrook Drive, Winston-Salem, NC. A 33-year-old man was found lying in the road with three gunshot wounds and was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. Investigation revealed an SUV drove by, and an occupant fired at the victim. On May 20, Zaid Mickyel Abdulwakil, a 28-year-old Black male, was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Task Force and Winston-Salem Police SWAT team at his High Point apartment. July 5, 2022: North Washington Avenue Shooting, Reidsville
On July 5, 2022, Reidsville police responded to a shooting on North Washington Avenue, Reidsville, NC. The incident involved gunfire into an occupied property, stemming from a dispute between neighbors that escalated. Corey Xavier King, a 20-year-old Black male, was arrested and charged with discharging a weapon into an occupied property and assault inflicting serious injury. King was detained and issued a $75,000 bond. Police stated the shooting was not a random act of violence. Source: WXII 12 News.

May 1, 2025: Shadow Valley Road Assault and Arson, High Point
On May 1, 2025, at 7:45 a.m., High Point Police responded to a sexual assault report at an apartment complex on Shadow Valley Road, High Point, NC. The female victim reported being held hostage overnight, repeatedly assaulted, and sexually assaulted while unconscious. Her child witnessed part of the assault before being locked in a bedroom. As officers approached, they observed smoke from the suspect’s apartment, where a fire damaged eight units, displacing residents. Kaylan M. Wilson-Boger, a 28-year-old Black male, emerged from the unit and was arrested. He faces over 40 charges, including two counts of first-degree kidnapping, three counts of first-degree rape, first-degree forcible sex offense, assault by strangulation, eight counts of first-degree arson, and assault in the presence of a minor. Court records reveal Wilson-Boger’s extensive criminal history in North Carolina and Georgia, including a 2022 strangulation conviction and release from prison in January 2025. The rape and sex offense charges carry potential life sentences without parole. He is held without bond at Guilford County Jail, with a court date set for June 27, 2025.
